History of Crooke Village

The history of the village goes back to the 14th century and from the 1870's, Crooke became a vital cog in the coal distribution system. Around that time Crooke had more than 550 souls living in the village but these days, the population is around 120. Crooke Hall, built in 1608, no longer stands because of subsidence and was demolished before the second world war. What is to follow, is peppered with facts and figures, photos of yesteryear, scenes as well as some maps of the area at it developed. I hope you will find it interesting?
