1927 - Ince Central won the Daily Dispatch Shield

In 1926, St. Patrick's School won the Daily Dispatch Shield at Central Park with an attendance of 16,000. There are plenty of references to this remarkable achievement.

However, the following year Ince Central School also won the Shield in front of a crowd of 12,000 also at Central Park, with little or no reference in our local newspapers. The following article was found in a Widnes newspaper (see below)

The team consisted of quite a few recognisable names in the Ince community today, Atherton,Thilwin, Young, Holland, Barker, Blakely, Green, Hall, Smith, Hunter, Leyland, Pulford, and Taylor.

Would anyone have any further information on this remarkable achievement? Please use the Comments at the bottom of the page.
