Medieval Moated Sites around Wigan

We don't often think about Wigan being rich in Medieval moats and halls, but there were many 500 to 800 years ago. 

Derek has pulled together lots of evidence of some 30 moated sites from old maps and documents, photos and satellite and LiDAR images. 

Some moated sites still exist.
